Free up the memory on your Blackberry Pearl

Keeping your Blackberry Pearl running at optimum speeds, you’ll need to be careful your internal memory doesn’t get bogged down with all sorts of garbage. If it’s not watched closely, it will get full quickly and your phone will start to bog down. I’m going to talk about the biggest issues and how to manage them.
First of all, how much memory do you have available? Its very easy to find this out. Heres how:
1. Go into your phone options. You’ll find these by clicking on the wrench icon.
2. Move down and select STATUS.
3. FILE TOTAL lists the absolute capacity of your phones memory.
4. FILE FREE lists the amount of memory available right now.
Our goal is to increase the number listed under FILE FREE. The bigger that number, the better your phone will run.
One of the first things you can do is clean out your inbox. This is pretty straight forward, but something that’s often overlooked. If you don’t need it on your phone, delete it.
Content Compression
One of the quickest and easiest steps you can take to free up valuable memory on your Blackberry Pearl is to enable Content Compression. I dont know exactly how much room youll gain from this, because Ive always used it on my Pearl. If youre isnt already enabled, heres how you do it:
1. Start on your main screen (the one with all the icons).
2. Scroll to and click on options (should look like a wrench).
3. Move down to SECURITY OPTIONS and click.
4. Move down to GENERAL SETTINGS and click.
5. Scroll to and click on CONTENT COMPRESSION.
6. If ENABLED is not selected, do so now.
7. Press the little button to the left of the pearl (it’s called the Blackberry button).
8. Now choose SAVE.
That was easy wasn’t it? Now you have content compression enabled on your phone and you’ll open up a good amount of memory. This not only compression pictures, video and music, but also items in your calendar and inbox.
Removing Unused Programs
I think I’ve played Brick Breaker once while in the doctors office. It was fun, but it’s not worth the memory it eats up. I deleted it. I also recommend going through all of the applications installed and removing those you rarely or never use.
1. From your HOME screen, press the “Blackberry Button”. This should give you a window with all of the icons on it.
2. Select the wrench icon. This will open up your options.
3. Scroll to and click on Advanced Options.
4. Click APPLICATIONS and wait for the list to build.
5. Wait for your Pearl to build the list of applications.
6. Scroll through and find any applications you dont want, need or use.
7. Select DELETE and press the pearl.
8. That’s it. Now select any other programs you want to delete.
Note: Some applications will require you to restart your Blackberry Pearl before theyre completely removed.
Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll certainly notice how much faster your Pearl is running. Applications should open up much quicker. If they don’t there are a number of other steps you can take that I’ll explore later.
