For many people it can seem little more than a dream to get fit over 40. However, fitness shouldn’t limited only to the younger generations - you too can get fit at any age. It’s not just models and bodybuilders that deserve to look good as they get older. You should keep on dreaming and pursuing your goals to look good over forty.

So what’s a forty, fifty or sixty-something adult to do? One of the true fountains of youth available to us all is muscle building. Now, I’m not talking about huge, bulky muscles that get you ready for a competition. But regular strength training at any age can make a world of difference in how you look and feel. And, the health benefits are amazing.

You should also know that even a little bit of strength training can improve your sex appeal. Many forty-somethings find themselves newly single and back on the dating scene after many years of marriage. If you are recently divorced then you probably need a few workouts to get back to your best self since first impressions are key in dating, career and most other areas of your life. You’ll also get an extra boost to your self-confidence through regular activity.

Beyond looking great, gaining muscle during the “experienced” years can help in other ways, too. For instance, do you find yourself constantly exhausted? People these days are constantly on the go and often overwhelmed. If you feel like you’re being run into the ground, finding time every week to work out can really help. Strength training can provide you with an incredible energy boost. You’ll find yourself feeling stronger and more refreshed in no time. You’ll be better able to handle whatever life throws at you, both mentally and physically.

You may also find yourself getting sicker as you get older and if this is the case, you’ll want to take action and do what you can to build up a healthy immune system. When everyone around you is sick all the time, you’ll be able to stay healthy because of your great fitness and health routine. Those who stay in shape experience less instances of the cold and flu. You’ll look great and get sick less often when you make strength training a regular part of your workout regime.

You should also know that you can really build up your bones by working out. For women this is especially important to keep in mind. Women are more likely to have problems with bone density and many go on to develop osteoporosis. Keeping fit and active is one way to minimize this risk. You can also limit any kind of joint pain that often accompanies aging by staying in shape and building muscle.

A sound fitness plan that includes strength training along with good nutritional habits can play a major role in protecting you from a number of serious health issues. You can fend off diabetes, stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and more by incorporating healthy lifestyle habits into your daily routine.

By taking care of yourself no matter what your age, getting and staying fit over 40 will serve you well into your golden years.
